Investment rules

Första AP-fonden’s investment rules are flexible and allow the Fund to invest in a number of different asset classes.

The Swedish National Pension Funds Act contains provisions governing the types of financial instruments the Fund may invest in. Move the mouse over the picture below for more information about which investment rules apply in different areas.

  • Investments may be made in all types of listed and negotiable instruments on the capital market.
  • No more than 70% of the Fund’s assets may be invested in equities.
  • Equity holdings in listed Swedish companies may not exceed the equivalent of 2% of the total value of Swedish shares on an authorized Swedish stock exchange or marketplace.
  • The Fund may control more than 10% of the votes in a single listed company.
  • The limited for unlisted venture capital companies is set at 30%. 
  • At least 30% of the Fund’s assets shall be invested in fixed-income securities with low credit and liquidity risk.
  • There are not restrictions on the share of the Fund’s assets that may be invested outside Sweden
  • No more than 40% of the Fund’s assets may be exposed to currency risk.
  • The Fund may not invest in materials (commodities).
  • At least 10% of the Fund’s assets shall be managed by external managers through the purchase of mutual fund shares or through discretionary management.
  • No more than 5% of the Fund’s assets may be invested in unlisted securities. These investments must take place indirectly via mutual funds or venture capital companies.
